In US news and current events today, COVID-19-outbreak fears are causing people to cancel travel plans. Matt Nicol was supposed to attend a business conference in France, but coronavirus fears postponed the conference. Nicol said he and his friends decided to take the trip from their home in England anyway.

Nicol said they expected the flight to be full, but from the time they got on the bus to board the plane, there were no other passengers in sight. Nicol’s flight isn’t the only one impacted by fears of coronavirus. Travelers from around the world are sharing videos of empty airplanes.

This footage was taken on a flight from London to New York in early March. Many of the world’s busiest airports have seemingly ground to a halt in the midst of outbreak fears.

With people canceling travel plans, popular tourist destinations are also being impacted. Paris, France, usually packed with tourists, was much less crowded than it has been in the past, according to Maria Khan, visiting from New Zealand.
