Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance takes off from football pitch.

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance takes off from football pitch. Not only was this an amazing thing to witness, but it also triggered the idea for my fifth novel, which will be published by Boldwood Books later in 2020. Having never seen a helicopter of any sort take off from close quarters before, I was literally and metaphorically blown away to witness this. My father and I learned a great deal about the DSAA and the experience of flying this very beautiful, state of the art machine while the pilot was awaiting news of the patient they'd flown in to assist. Since the patient subsequently went by road, and so was not on board for the return flight, I thought it would be nice to record this for posterity (and to refer to it while writing the book!).

This was the first step on an eighteen month journey of knowledge for me about the role of the Air Ambulance in emergency care, and I am so grateful to the wonderful people who have since given up their time to be interviewed for my research. I think my 'Wow!' right at the end of this video pretty much sums up the experience of seeing and hearing the takeoff!

pitch.
