Thanks to UK quitting, EU defense and security will now speed up - EU Commissioner takes a dig at UK The Munich Security Conference, the annual convention of the world’s top security experts, policymakers and military commanders, has kicked off.

EU Commissioner Margaratis Schinas was invited to talk about cybersecurity.

During his speech, he took the opportunity to take a dig at the United Kingdom, saying that EU defense and security cooperation would now speed up thanks to Britain quitting the EU.

“There were always those who wanted Europe to do a lot, and those who wanted Europe to do nothing at all or less,” he said.

“Those who wanted Europe to do nothing at all, or less, in defense are no longer with us. They left us end of January.

Because these are the ones who didn’t want Europe to spend on defense. These were the ones who were blocking systematically every effort of the European Union to do something meaningful.”
