Ryan Newman in 'serious condition' after horrific Daytona 500 crash NASCAR driver Ryan Newman suffered serious injuries in a last-lap crash during Monday's Daytona 500. In a statement, NASCAR announced Newman was in serious condition but doctors believe his injuries are "not life-threatening." Newman was leading the race on the final lap when he and Ryan Blaney made contact, sending Newman's No. 6 Roush Fenway Racing Ford into the outside wall.
