Coronavirus outbreak: SuperStar Aquarius cruise passengers get off in Taiwan after testing negative

More than 1,700 people disembarked a cruise ship docked in Taiwan, the SuperStar Aquarius, on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020 after testing negative for the novel coronavirus.

While Taiwan has prevented most cruise ships from docking due to concerns over the outbreak, the SuperStar Aquarius was granted permission due to 90 per cent of passengers being Taiwanese, according to Taiwan News.

Health Minister Chen Shih-chung and 25 health workers tested all 1,738 passengers earlier in the day and needed to wait approximately six hours for the entire screening process to be completed and passengers' travel histories to be checked.

At around 9 p.m. local time, Chen announced all passengers had tested negative for the virus and would be allowed to return home, but they must continue to monitor their health and follow the 14-day home quarantine rule.
